This week has been the worst in a long time. It all started last Saturday night when I came home from work itching like crazy with no idea why. About an hour later after a refreshing and relieving shower, hives started popping up.
I have never had hives as an adult or teenager so I had to Google image what hives looked like to be sure it was in fact hives. Well it was. I sent Alex out for some benedryl and yucky calamine lotion. I couldn't believe I had hives when I have no known allergies, I racked brain trying to think if I started using something new in the last few days.I have not.
I had Sunday off and had some big plans for the day! I went to all my local garden stores and picked up some renaculas, begonias, lavender, pink poppies and a strawberry plant. When I got home I rearranged all my flowers and re-planted them in more sensible locations (since this gardening thing is a bit new to me and all, I didn't pick the best original spots). After that was done it was on to my next big task for the day cleaning out the pantry and resealing it and the big window with silicone to keep out those darn ants! Re-sealing everything wasn't as hard as I anticipated, but I Also wanted to re paint the pantry because it was still its original color of brown. So all the food stayed on the kitchen table, because I could not paint while the silicone was still wet.
On to the third task of the day! My mom came down and we ran some work errands for her and then went to Lowe's for me, where I finally found touch lamps for the bed room. I had also found inexpensive bed side tables at Christmas tree shop.I had been in the market for both of these items for months so I'm glad I finally found them without spending a fortune!! My mom and I went out for some ice cream and then I headed home to get started on my fourth and unplanned task. Assembling my new bedside tables and lamps.
Alex grilled some kielbasa for dinner and we watched tv while I put together the tables. Sure enough before bed time those hives were back again.
On Monday I worked all day and came home at five with my body completely covered in hives. They started at work and just spread like crazy. I was so uncomfortable and unhappy about it. I took some benedryl and went to bed.
Tuesday morning I decided I wasn't going to wait for the hives today. So I went to target and picked up some. Non drowsy allergy meds. The pharmacist recommended Allegra. I then headed to work for my 1pm to 9 pm shift, my mood started to pick up a little and even though it was a slow day it wasn't bad. On my way home the itching had started again and before I knew it I was covered once again. At this point i am pretty convinced its something to do with work. Even though I know that is unlikely.
Wednesday morning was a regular 9-5 day. I got up at my normal time, took a shower, got dressed, got my coffee and headed to work. When I got to work I did my make up and played a Little candy crush while I waited for the day to start. I got the first client of the day and just as i was checking her in i could feel my tongue start to feel very strange. Within a few minutes it felt swollen. I finished my client and checked her out, then decided it would be a good time for allergy meds.
After a few minutes it wasn't getting any better and i was starting to get light headed and upset. So i left work and headed to southern medicals E.R. Department ( yes I drove myself). Alex and his mom Cindy showed up about twenty minutes after I got there, the swelling in my mouth had started to go down at the point but my throat was still pretty sore/slightly swollen. When the doctor came in i told him about the hives and all the meds Ive been taking and the scariness of the swollen mouth. He said that if i had not taken the Allegra I would be in a much worse position. That I had a severe allergic reaction and since we don't know what the cause of the reaction is I now must carry around an epi-pen like a true dork.
Talking with my mom and the nurses later in the day we think it is one of two things strawberries or berries in general or cinnamon. Well my mom and the nurses think it was the berries because I pretty much eat berries everyday. Weather its in a muffin or a smoothie or just with a little sugar. Literally every day sometime multiple times a day. As I learned from this experience, you can go your whole life eating something and then wake up one day and be deathly allergic to it.
However I also am nervous to eat cinnamon because I did scarf down a coffee roll that morning and even while I was eating it the roof of my mouth started feeling funny but not really swollen.
The good part was i got to spend the day with Alex. We dropped off my car so a funny noise could be looked at, we went to joeys diner for lunch and when we finally got home we spent the next eight hours catching up on season 3 of game of thrones. I was scheduled to from 9 am- 9 pm on Wednesday. It was so strange that at 9:30 I was like, I would just be getting home now. What a long day.
In addition to my new unknown ( but most likely berries or cinnamon) allergy, we got some more terrible news Thursday morning which I don't feel is too appropriate to talk about in detail at this moment. However my thoughts and prayers are with my friends and their loved ones.
Overall its been a terrible, horrible, no good kind of week. Since I don't have a day off in the upcoming week, its hard to determine when this nightmare week will end.
